Call of Duty

The Call of Duty action game had been released on 29th of October 2003, dealing with the excitement of the infantry advances and real time frenzy of World War II. The game has been published by Infinity Ward and published by Activision using the Quake III Arena engine. After September 2004 it was developed in another version by the N-Gage Games under Nokia.

The theme developed in Call of Duty is similar to that in Medal of Honor, Allied Assault, keeping the player under gripping fever of the mission and campaign of the first person shooting showdown.

The game is in the single player mode and the player is connected to computer regulated characters called “Bots” similar to the Quake III Arena fighting scenario. These Bots can even be a couple of British Infantrymen to whole Tank Units used in larger missions especially in the Soviet side of encounters. The whole realistic experience by the gamer in Call of Duty often goes beyond the limits of other action games in detail and perfection.

As an introduction to the several reality induced scenarios there are multiple platforms of the overall campaign encountered in Call of Duty. The American side of the mission introduces the 101st Airborne division parachuted in the terrains of Normandy in France, with Private Martin as the central character. The British side is associated to Sergeant Jack Evans belonging to the British 6th Airborne Division assigned to capture the Pegasus bridge with the joint assistance of the British Special Air Force. The Soviet side of the mission in the Call of Duty game depicts a close combat in an underground sewerage charactered by Private Alexei Ivanovich Voronin of the 13th Guards Rifle Division and the 150th Rifle Division. A short video session is presented on the hoisting of the USSR flag on the Reichstag as the momentous glimpse of the Fall of Berlin.

The Call of Duty game presents six multiplayer approaches, leading a action drama till death for the participating gamers. Another specialized feature of the multiplayer mode is the “Killcam”, where the terminated participant can view the last five seconds his receding lifespan from the point of vision of the opponent striking him out. Deriving a brilliant concept from the features of the film “Saving Private Ryan”, the N- Gage games have introduced a special effect in the Call of Duty action game known as the “Shellshock”, which is characterized by the screen tremor, sound and the blurred effects of the blast as experienced by the gamer close to a shell explosion spot in the game.

The sound effects experts in the development of Call of Duty game do deserve much gratification for a reality induced, specially acted upon excellent voice back ups. As voice artists the credit also goes to Jason Statham, Giovanni Ribisi and Steven Blum along with a host of others who have contributed with gusto in similar action games like the Medal of Honor.

Triggered by the success of the developing team and the quality of game play the Call of Duty initiated in the release of a number of sequels in short duration. The sequel Call of Duty 2 was developed and launched aided by the Infinity Ward in 2005. The Call of Duty games that were only developed for consoles include, Call of Duty: Finest Hour by Spark Unlimited, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One by Gray Matter Interactive and a host of other sequels.
